DISTRIBUTED-WORK-MODEL/LONDON, March 3, 2025 – Women experiencing perimenopause and menopause are spending thousands on products to combat symptoms such as fatigue, hot flushes and issues with memory and concentration.
Clearpay, a leader in Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL), conducted a new study of 2,000 women who have experienced perimenopause and menopause symptoms to understand the personal cost to managing this life stage. It found women spend £1,800 a year on average on products such as vitamins and minerals (76%), supplements (52%) and hormone support (40%).
The most expensive products purchased are skincare treatments (£244) and skincare products (£179). Women also spend £147 each year on supplements, £120 on vitamins and minerals, and £105 on hormone support.
Clearpay’s own numbers show year-on-year growth in healthcare and wellness products. A comparison of 2023 and 2024 sales data reveals a 156% rise in Omega-3 fish oil, 150% increase in calcium products, 92% uplift in primrose oil and 20% rise in red clover.2
The study also found that a quarter of women (25%) are turning to sleep aids, including aromatherapy, weighted blankets and sleep trackers, to alleviate symptoms such as night sweats and fatigue. Clearpay sales data shows year-on-year increases in sales of sleep trackers (+303%), aromatherapy (+263%) and weighted blankets (32%).2
Nearly half (49%) of women are spending on these products to make them feel better, and 34% said it’s because friends and family recommended them for support. Additionally, nearly three in 10 (29%) women report feeling overwhelmed and stressed while navigating menopause and the associated expenses. Nearly a quarter (24%) struggle to find a trusted source of information about suitable products.
Clearpay’s Consumer Insights Psychologist, Shakaila Forbes-Bell, commented: “While the effects of perimenopause and menopause are unique to each woman, this stage of life is a universal experience, which for some, will give a feeling of losing control, potentially leading to emotional exhaustion and worsening symptoms.
“It’s clear from our research that women are prepared to invest significantly in solutions designed specifically to help them navigate this time. By researching and purchasing effective products to manage symptoms, women are regaining a sense of control, providing them with increased resilience and a greater sense of life satisfaction.”
